Hawaii is the world's largest island chain, and it's the only U.S. state completely made up of islands. Only 7 of the 132 are inhabited: Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Oahu, Kauai, and Niihau. The capital of Hawaii is Honolulu. Hawaii was granted statehood on August 21, 1959. The Hawaiian islands are volcanic islands.
